The Independent School for the City is open to all people who deal with the city - not only those with a background in architecture and planning but also history, sociology, art, psychology, film etc. - the more diverse the backgrounds of the participants, the more interesting things will get!
A high proficiency of English is essential, as well as experience in your field and an involvement with the urban topics. The assessment of your application will be based predominantly on how you demonstrate these aspects.

To be eligible for the programme, you preferably hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Architecture, Design, Planning, Sociology, History etc. Alternatively, we might accept you if you hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, or have demonstrable relevant experience and/or intellectual credentials.
In order to make an application for the 2019/2020 curriculum (starting in September 2019), we kindly ask you to register your personal details and submit a testimonial video (max 3 minutes) introducing yourself, the reason why you want to participate, and the individual topic you want to develop as part of the programme. Here you can also upload your CV and examples of your previous work (max 4 pages). The application deadline is 30 April 2019. Selection will be based on the provided documents and your testimonial in addition to which we will take into account the professional and cultural diversity of the group we want to form. You will receive a confirmation of acceptance before 10 May.
The participation fee for the 2019/2020 education programme is €10,000 (no VAT payable). Travelling expenses, accommodation, costs for VISA applications, living expenses, etc. are not included. The participation fee can be paid in instalments.
Make sure you have the right to study in the EU (if you are not an EU national, you might need to acquire an appropriate VISA). Due to its unaccredited status, the school is unable to arrange VISA’s for non EU Nationals, but if you graduated at one of the 200 top universities worldwide you are eligible for a visa. Part 1: Personal DetailsPlease fill in your personal details such as name, surname, date of birth, home address, email address, phone number etc.
Part 2: Testimonial VideoWe ask all applicants to submit a motivational video of 2-3 minutes. In this video you can introduce yourself and explain why you want to take part in our programme, show examples of your work or talk about the urban topic which intrigues you and which you want to pursue as individual project during the programme. All formats are allowed; from recordings with your webcam or phone to professional productions. What counts is that we understand what makes you tick. You can upload your video on vimeo and protect it with a password.
Part 3: CVPlease upload your up-to-date CV, including your educational and professional background, information on schools you have attended, qualifications awarded, working history, job titles, names of companies you have worked for and when, and any comments or information you want to share with us. Also make sure the document contains a clear picture of yourself (PDF, max 3 pages).
Part 4: Examples of Previous WorkHere you can upload examples of previous work, showcasing e.g. your previous research, drawings, films, essays, photographs etc. according your expertise and activities. (PDF, max 4 pages).
The application deadline is 30 April 2019, (23:59 CET). Applicants will receive a letter confirming the outcome of their application by email before 10 May.
