School's Out! #61 with Pablo Georgieff (Coloco)

The first School’s Out! after the summer break, will be one within our Landscape Lecture Series, curated by Peter Veenstra and Leire Calvillo (LOLA Landschape Architects). For this edition they have invited the French landscape architect Pablo Georgieff, co-founder of Coloco.

Founded in 1999, Coloco brings together landscape architects, urban planners, botanists, gardeners, and artists to work on contemporary landscapes. Their practice is driven by the conviction that the quality of life for all beings—human and non-human alike—depends on our ability to continually invent new forms of coexistence.

Through projects ranging from territorial strategies to the construction of gardens, Coloco explores the relationship between people and the places they inhabit. Their work unfolds through five interconnected stages: Exploration, Strategy, Activation, Construction, and Transmission, with the goal of creating places whose quality is measured by their capacity to welcome and sustain the extraordinary diversity of life.

Join us for an inspiring evening as Pablo Georgieff shares the ideas, methods, and projects that have shaped Coloco’s internationally recognised practice over the past twenty-five years.

About the School's Out! Landscape Lectures

In light of climate change and global distress, many of us are trying to rebalance the ecological impact we have, as individuals, professionals, and as a society. While doing so, we are in need of inspiring examples; role models, ideas, and images. Landscape architects have been working on these ideas and places for decades, combining poetry with pragmatism, creating sustainable utopias that can survive in a world built on business cases, a world without time, with vandalism, indifferent clients, and ignorant dog-owners. Their work is not necessarily carbon-neutral or LEED Platinum, but it is beautiful and inspiring, bringing people together and closer to nature. 

Throughout the year, Peter Veenstra and Leire Calvillo will invite different landscape architects who have created inspiring, intimate places that offer a glimpse of what our daily future could look like if we commit to a socio-ecological transition.

About Pablo Georgieff 
Pablo Georgieff was born in 1971 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He co-founded Atelier COLOCO in 1999 and over time has worked on over a hundred landscape projects across a wide range of scales and timeframes. Within COLOCO, he develops performative projects, as well as the studio's writings and films. He was co-curator of the 2022 Landscape Biennale, The Primacy of the Living (La préséance du vivant), together with Gilles Clément, Miguel Georgieff, and Nicolas Bonnenfant. He is the author of the essay Navigating Through a Garden (Naviguer dans un jardin), published by Jean Michel Place. Pablo graduated from the Paris-Villemin School of Architecture in 1997 and holds a degree in contemporary architectural theory and urban geography, as well as a Master's degree in Contemporary Architectural Theory and a Master's degree from the Institute of Higher Studies on Latin America.
